Boeung Keng Kang 1 (BKK1): The Premier District for Expats in Phnom Penh
Boeung Keng Kang 1, or BKK1, is one of Phnom Penh's most sought-after districts, favored by both locals and expatriates. Situated within a well-defined area bounded by four major roads—Sihanouk Blvd to the north, Mao Tse Tung Blvd to the south, Norodom Blvd to the east, and Monivong Blvd to the west—BKK1 stands out as a central, vibrant neighborhood in the city.
Known as the "foreign quarter," BKK1 became a hub for international NGOs in the 1990s, and today, it remains a top choice for expatriates. Along with nearby districts like Tonle Bassac, Toul Tum Poung (TTP), BKK2, and BKK3, BKK1 offers a variety of housing options, dining establishments, and proximity to essential amenities, making it an ideal location for those seeking both convenience and comfort in Phnom Penh.
Due to its high demand and prime location, securing affordable real estate in BKK1 can be a challenge. The area is considered one of the most expensive in the city, with significant interest from developers, making it a prime destination for investment.
BKK1 also houses numerous embassies, diplomatic missions, and official residences, further adding to its prestige. As the commercial and cultural hub of Phnom Penh, the district features a wide range of businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, hotels, and modern condominiums, including internationally recognized food and beverage brands and retail outlets.
Regarded as one of the safest and most well-developed areas in the city, BKK1 offers superior infrastructure, making it an attractive place to live, work, and invest. In recent years, BKK1 has undergone a transformation, with luxury residences and new real estate projects reshaping the area and giving rise to more high-rise buildings, further elevating its status as one of Phnom Penh’s premier districts.
