Cambodia experiences two distinct seasons - the dry season from October to late April and the wet season from May to late September. Temperature variations are noticeable within each season, with the hottest months typically being March and April preceding the wet season, and May and June marking the onset of the wet season with temperatures sometimes exceeding 35°C. March and April witness the highest humidity levels, while the coolest months generally fall between October and December, with average temperatures ranging from 24°C to 26°C. During the dry season, running from October to April and early May,
Cambodia welcomes the dry north-east monsoon, characterized by warm winds sweeping across the country. The weather tends to be cooler in November to January, but by April, it becomes scorching, making early morning and late afternoon visits to Angkor Temple preferable for tourists. This season attracts peak tourist numbers, especially in regions like Kep and Sihanoukville along the south coast, where sunny days and favorable sea conditions prevail. The wet season, spanning from early/mid-May to October, is driven by the southwest monsoon and contributes nearly 75% of Cambodia's annual rainfall. Daytime temperatures during this period typically range from 25°C to 27°C. While the early wet months experience intense heat with sporadic downpours, the latter months witness more constant and heavy rainfall, particularly in coastal and rural areas. Travel in remote regions like Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri becomes challenging due to road conditions, especially during the peak wet season. Access to Bamboo Island near Kep is also limited due to rough seas.
